Our relationship begins with your first phone call. During this conversation, I will ask you some preliminary questions about the type of project on which you are planning and I will send you my "New Client Think Sheet." This information sheet is designed to help you gather your thoughts and ideas and to start thinking more in depth about what you'd like to accomplish. We can then set up an appointment to meet at your property and gather further information about the site.
I will also ask you to gather a few items before we meet. Plot plans, utility easement maps, and any current or old photographs of the property are helpful. Have an idea of your budget. Though we may develop a master plan for your property, you may choose to install parts of it over time, so think both
on a project basis and as a yearly budget.
During our initial meeting, we will walk your property. I will ask you to tell me about your ideas, visions, and preferences. We will discuss my design fee. When agreed upon, the design process begins. 50%
of the design fee is due at the signing of the contract; the balance will be due upon presentation of the design.
I will photograph key areas and take notes. I may also take some rough measurements. I’ll ask you for the items you have gathered and we will meet again to go over conceptual ideas.
During this meeting, you will hear about preliminary design ideas addressing your wants and needs discussed up to now. At this time, I will discuss the opportunities and challenges that your property presents. We will make some initial decisions regarding placements of walkways, patios, retaining walls, arbors, etc. It is imperative that all decision-makers be at this meeting and I will be flexible with timing to allow this to happen.
Over the next several weeks, we will be talking about various options such as materials, lighting, and, of course, plants! When we have everything completed, we will set an appointment to review your final plan. Again, it is essential that everyone be at this meeting also. We’ll take all the time you need to answer any questions.
